A stroll around Emu Plains

Emu Plains is a suburb located 58 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD and just outside of growing Penrith. Positioned on the Nepean River, Emu Plains really is an underrated area. 

The lots here are large and the streets are lined with large mature trees. It has a great selection of local shops, restaurants and cafes that make living here convenient. 

Emu Plains has an estimated population of just over 8,000 people with most households being comprised of either households with children or older couples without children. It’s a quiet area with low levels of crime and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a great mix of people and an excellent community.

Much of the homes here are established with large lots, however, there has been some recent redevelopment with an emphasis on townhomes to support the growing population. 

Schools in Emu Plains 

The suburb has a good mix of public and private schools. Emu Plains Public School has enrolment for kindergarten through high school. Its ranking within the state has been consistently rising in recent years. 

Families can also send their children to the Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School, a government funded comprehensive school that focuses on the performing arts. This school is also known for its astounding special education program. 

Penola Catholic College is Emu Plain’s independently run Catholic secondary school for 

year seven to year 12 and Our Lady of the Way is the suburb’s Catholic primary school.

Transportation 

Emu Plains is serviced by the T1 train line that runs the North Short and Western train lines. While it may not be a short train ride into Sydney’s CBD, there are several express services making it a doable commute of 55 minutes. In addition, the 795 bus line provides local transportation and the 688 bus connects Emu Plains to Penrith. 

The Great Western Highway runs right through the suburb, connecting to the nearby M4 for easy access to Greater Sydney.

Parks, Recreation and Lifestyle 

With the Blue Mountains at the doorstep of Emu Plains, residents can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities. Regatta Park recently announced an outstanding upgrade consisting of a new playground and community space. Enjoy an expansive, shaded splash pad, improved amenities, and a new cafe. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2022. 

Hunter Fields and Lions Park are both great sporting facilities. However, Penrith is also located just across the river and has fantastic sporting fields and ovals. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy long walks on the nearby Blue Pool Walking Track, Jellybean track, or the Great River Walk. 

The precinct along the Nepean River is popular for both walks and its charming cafes. Café at Lewers has a magnificent location right on the water and an expansive patio garden.  Patrons not only enjoy their excellent foot, occasional live music and art display. It’s a great spot for catching up with friends during any season.
